2017 Featured Artist Melanie Stimmell Van Latum
A graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, Melanie has a rich and varied career. Starting out as a lead technical director on a feature film, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone invited her to work on South Park. For eight years she oversaw the transition of paper cutouts to digital animations on the Comedy Central series. During a hiatus from South Park she began street painting and instantly fell in love with the medium. Melanie is now a full time street painter and fine artist creating three dimensional and Renaissance style work.
Melanie and her husband Remco launched We Talk Chalk, offering street painting, digital painting and mural creation services worldwide. They have completed more than 300 paintings for festivals and corporate events from London to Hong Kong and Bogota to Toronto. We Talk Chalk has a professional team of studio artists in Los Angeles and major cities across the globe.
Melanie is the only woman to hold the prestigious “maestra madonnara”, or master street painter, title in Italy and Germany. She has won awards in Europe’s most prestigious competitions to become one of the worlds most decorated street painters.
